Ryley Carlock & Applewhite Attorneys Recognized by AzBusiness Magazine's "Top 100 Lawyers in Arizona"

We are pleased to announce that Ryley Carlock & Applewhite attorneys Michael P. Ripp and Sheryl A. Sweeney have been named to the 2018 AzBusiness Magazine’s “Top 100 Lawyers in Arizona.”

Mike has been with Ryley Carlock & Applewhite since 1986 and heads up the Phoenix office’s banking and finance practice. Mike represents lending institutions and borrowers in commercial real estate and asset-based (including agricultural) loan transactions (including loan originations, workouts and enforcement) and real estate purchases and sales. His experience includes many mixed-use projects, retail centers, office, industrial, multi-family, hospitality and assisted living projects. This includes leasehold loans (including Arizona State Land Department leases), mezzanine loans and loan syndications and participations (both as counsel to the lead lender and as counsel to the co-lenders or participants). Mike often serves as counsel to Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, MidFirst Bank, BBVA Compass Bank, Mutual of Omaha Bank and others in their significant Arizona loan transactions, workouts and enforcement activities, and often serves as Arizona lender's or borrower's counsel in multistate loan transactions.

Sheryl joined Ryley Carlock & Applewhite in 1984. She practices in the areas of energy law, water law, environmental law, electric utility law and special taxing districts. She has extensive experience representing both public and private energy interests. Sheryl acts as counsel to several entities that contract for hydroelectric power from the Western Area Power Administration and the Arizona Power Authority. She is involved in all aspects of the industry, including power supply contracting, rate setting, transmission access, renewable generation, conventional generation, distributed generation, siting and retail electric competition. Her practice includes all aspects of documenting, acquiring, transferring and perfecting groundwater and surface water rights in Arizona. Sheryl also has prepared hundreds of water rights claims in the two Arizona general stream adjudications.
