Bill focuses his practice in the areas of estate and business succession planning. He has many years of experience assisting individuals and families with their personal estate planning needs as well as professionals and business owners who desire to transfer their businesses to family members, key employees and/or third parties. He also represents individuals and fiduciaries regarding estate and trust administration, including related litigation. 

Bill currently devotes a substantial amount of his time to the representation of individuals and families who want to update or create estate plans with particular emphasis on the protection of their assets from creditors and the disposition of their assets to their loved ones and charities in the most tax-efficient manner. He has substantial experience in the creation and administration of various kinds of trusts, including generation skipping trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, special needs trusts, charitable trusts and business entities such as family limited partnerships and limited liability companies. He also advises individual and corporate fiduciaries, including representation in court, and he regularly represents family members in disputes regarding the disposition of family assets and the operation of family businesses.

During his career, Bill has tried many high-profile cases and argued numerous appeals in both state and federal courts across the country. Several of his cases have been profiled in national and local publications such as The New York Times, US News and World Report, Time Magazine, and The Denver Post, and he has appeared on numerous television programs including CNN News and 60 Minutes.

For many years Bill and his wife Karen have actively supported and worked with a number of charities in the Denver community, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado, Adoption Options, the Cherry Creek School Foundation, the Metropolitan State University Foundation, and the Denver Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Bill and Karen established a Donor Advised Fund at The Denver Foundation named “Rylan’s Gift.” This fund annually makes grants to organizations which provide support to the caregivers of people with brain injuries and other severe disabilities.
