Summer Associate Benefits & Compensation
Ryley Carlock & Applewhite believes in providing superior employee benefits to all our employees. The following is a snapshot of the benefits and compensation you will enjoy as a summer associate at RCA.
Detailed summaries of our benefit programs and the plan documents are available through our Executive Director. The language of plan documents take precedence over any summary of the benefits provided to you.
Summer Associate compensation is determined annually. Our salary levels are competitive with those in the Phoenix and Denver markets.
In addition to the professional aspects of the Summer Associate Program at Ryley Carlock & Applewhite, it is equally important that you have the opportunity to socialize with other summer associates and RCA lawyers.
The firm hosts outings and events throughout the year such as the Maricopa County Bar Association Summer Volleyball Tournament, informal dinners at attorneys' homes including the Bill Wilder Chile Relleno Party, the annual Cinco de Mayo Taco Binge, and in-office happy hours. These social experiences allow you to become better acquainted with our attorneys and staff.
Summer Associate Experiences
"My summer experience allowed me to explore numerous practice areas. I was able to work with a variety of attorneys. The social events complemented the collegial environment of the workplace. My mentor provided the support and guidance necessary for me to make the most of my time. I enjoyed working side-by-side with such intelligent and hard-working attorneys. I believe that the summer experience prepared me for future legal study and work as a full-time associate."
Jessica Ann Benford, 2004 & 2005 Summer Associate, Current Shareholder & Practice Group Leader
"In 2007, I was a summer associate at Ryley Carlock & Applewhite, and started as a full-time attorney in 2008 and was my first job as an attorney. While working here I have had the opportunity to grow professionally by appearing in Court, having meaningful client interaction, and learning the practice of law in a culture of professional development. The partners I have had the chance to work with have always genuinely sought to improve me as a lawyer, offering valuable feedback and perspective. Additionally, the firm encourages and supports our individual and practice-group marketing efforts, providing the training and financial backing necessary for us to try and be visible in the community.
"Finally, and most importantly, I have been able to pursue my career goals while having a family. The expectation is excellence; if one is working hard, and producing high-quality work, the firm does not micro-manage when or where you do your work. The bottom line, I get the discretion to manage my time to be the best I can be, as a husband, as a father, and as an attorney. This type of autonomy is unprecedented in our industry, and is one of the many reasons I have found Ryley Carlock & Applewhite the ideal fit for me."
Samuel L. Lofland, 2007 Summer Associate, Current Shareholder
