Arizona Corporation Commission Votes Unanimously to Appoint Emergency Manager to Take Over Operation of Johnson Utilities

On Tuesday,  in a 4-0 vote, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) took decisive action to find that an interim manager is necessary for Johnson Utilities. This decision represents an unprecedented first step in providing relief to approx. 30,000 Johnson Utilities’ customers in Florence, Queen Creek and the San Tan Valley area who have been complaining for years about water and sewer issues including low water pressure, overflowing sewers, and noxious fumes. Ryley Carlock & Applewhite Attorney Bert Acken represented the towns of Florence and Queen Creek in pushing for the ACC to appoint an emergency interim manager by providing testimony on the financial and operational mismanagement by Johnson Utilities. The towns of Florence and Queen Creek are under consideration to serve as interim manager of the water utility. The ACC will meet today to make a final decision.
